Mayari

NAWA'Y ANG NINGNING NG ATING SINING ANG MANAIG

From Philippine mythology, Mayari is the daughter of Bathala and is considered as the most beautiful deity. She is known for being the goddess of the moon which corresponds to our firm name Duyog, the Filipino word for eclipse. She is also the goddess of combat, war, revolution, hunt, weaponry, beauty, strength, and night. Knowing that the Philippines had a long history of fighting for its independence and is indeed still fighting for it even in the present, we figured that her name Mayari is a symbol of our identity as Filipinos.

This name can also denote “may-ari” which means owner in Filipino, representing how we should claim what’s rightfully ours and stand by it.

Lastly, the word “mayari” can also mean made or finished. Like Mayari, who embodies contradicting principles of beauty and combat, we believe that Filipino artworks are not only worthy of praises for its beauty but also for its impact that resonates within every Filipino.

Our Purpose

Art has been a part of our lives even in the beginning of times. It varies from paintings, sculptures, drawings, dance, music or even in the intricate details we see in product packaging. However, it is still evident that even with these much art incorporated in our lives, people still don’t see its importance.

Here in the Philippines, being an artist is regarded as a low paying profession far more inferior than other jobs Filipinos deemed to be worthier such as a doctor, lawyer, engineer, and many more. And with that, more and more Filipino artists are being discouraged to pursue their passion even if it means losing their very identity. They were constantly struggling everyday and slowly and slowly becoming unsure if there really is a future ahead of them. But I believe this is only because Filipino artists haven’t been given the opportunity to showcase their skills, not only because of the lack of support from the government but also from us simple citizens.

That is why we came up with this business. Aside from a platform where artists can gather to exhibit their artworks, we would also give them the chance to have an extra income by selling their artworks through mass production or commissions. Through this, they could be a little step closer to reaching their dreams and that is what we want to become, a bridge towards their triumph. Moreover, we would also like to encourage other Filipinos to try creating their own artworks by having low cost painting supplies. With this, we could open a window of possibility for Filipinos to know firsthand what art really is and how it is important in our lives.

Duyog

Along with our objective of promoting artworks created by Filipino artists, we have come to use an uncommon Filipino word as our firm name to showcase the beauty of our own language. “Duyog” is what you call an eclipse in Filipino language. As mystical and magical as an eclipse could be, we regard our lineage and culture the same way. Filipinos are a people of their own who are intelligent, talented, and beautiful. Like the eclipse, we may suffer from constant darkness and the people of the world could see us go through that as a spectacle or a significant event but just they watch and see how we will be born with another beginning from where we will shine the brightest. Also, an eclipse signifies growth, internally and externally which is exactly what art does to individuals. Another good thing about this word is its sweet notion in Cebuano language with how it meant accompaniment, company or together. From these interpretations, we could somehow generate the idea that Filipinos are capable of change if it needs to be done and will be united throughout the transition from an era full of sufferings to that of freedom, joy and victory.

Through our firm, we swear by our mission to continually promote Filipino artists and their artworks by utilizing their ability to empower people. We seek to introduce the world to the vast abilities of our very own artists, amplifying the voices encaged within their artworks, and stand with them as we uphold our pride as Filipinos.
